Railroad transfers culturally significant land to village corporation
The Alaska Railroad
transferred a long-disputed 48-acre parcel of land near
Eagle River, Alaska, commonly known as the Eklutna
Quarry, to Eklutna Inc. The hills that comprise the
quarry have historic and cultural significance to the
area's Dena'ina Athabascan people.

Monastery opens at St. Nicholas

establish a monastery, The Skete of St. Nicholas at St.
Nicholas Church, Mile 26.5 Glenn Highway, Eklutna, at 9
a.m. Tuesday. The event is sponsored by the Russian
